Story Story Late-Night strikes again with TWiSTED, May 27

(BOISE, IDAHO)  The adults-only, adult-themed Story Story Late-Night season continues with TWiSTED Stories on May 27, 2013 at Visual Arts Collective, featuring story hosts Emmanuel Vera IV and Dustin Chalifoux, accompanied by musical guest Stardust Lounge.

TWiSTED begins at 8 pm, and doors open at 7 pm. Admission is $8 in advance, or $10 at the door. Advance tickets available here. 

The black sheep of the Story Story Night family, Late-Nights are held on the last Monday of each month in the spring and summer of 2013 at the Visual Arts Collective, a 21-and-over venue located at 3638 Osage Street in Garden City’s arts district.

Each show is hosted by a provocateur or two from the community. These storytelling emcees embody the spirit of a scandalous theme. The hosts will open the night with an audacious story, then open the floor to the audience. 

Vera also hosts Late Night Laughs at the Crux in downtown Boise, and he brings his irreverent, personal humor to venues throughout the northwest. Chalifoux, a former freestyle battle rap champion, is bizarre, quick-witted and darkly sincere, in one stand-up package.

Aaron Farnsworth will also make a guest story appearance at TWiSTED. During the show, names will also be drawn from a vessel, and the randomly chosen ones will come up on stage and tell a story. Subject-matter relevant prizes will be given to storytellers. Stardust Lounge, aka the featured VJ Nancy Spittle, will add themed texture and tone with late-night worthy spins.

Story Story Late-Nights continue after TWiSTED in 2013 with EXCESS Stories on June 24 with host Dylan Haas; BiGOT Stories on July 29 with host Sean Peabody; and BAD INFLUENCE Stories on August 26 with host Jen Adams.

Story Story Late-Night turns on the heat with KiNK April 29

(BOISE, IDAHO)   Story Story Night brings out the black sheep in the family with the new season of Story Story Late-Night, the adults-only, adult-themed arm of the popular live storytelling program. Story Story Late-Nights will be held on the last Monday of each month in the spring and summer of 2013 at the Visual Arts Collective, a 21-and-over venue located at 3638 Osage Street in Garden City’s arts district.

The season launches with KiNK Stories on April 29, 2013 featuring story host Emma Arnold and musician Dan Costello. KiNK begins at 8 pm, and doors open at 7 pm. Admission is $8 in advance, or $10 at the door. (Get tickets here.)

Arnold is the artistic director of Story Story Late-Night, and a well-known voice in stand-up comic, writing and storytelling circles in Boise and beyond. She has made frequent appearances on stage at Story Story Night and its podcasts. She also hosted the sold-out Late-Night launch show, NAKED, in March 2012.

Dave Miller will also make a guest story appearance at KiNK. During the show, names will be drawn from a vessel, and the randomly chosen ones will come up on stage and tell a true story, without notes or inhibitions. Subject-matter relevant prizes will be given to storytellers. Costello, the featured musician, will add themed texture and tone with late-night worthy music.

Story Story Night changes it up at METAMORPHOSiS

(Boise, Idaho)   As our live storytelling program breaks out a new year-round calendar based on event-types, Story Story Night shape-shifts in the final show of this season, METAMORPHOSiS: Stories of One Thing After Another on Mar. 25, 2013 at the Rose Room, located at 718 W. Idaho Street in downtown Boise.

Advance tickets are on sale now at www.storystorynight.bigcartel.com for $8, or at the door for $10. Doors open at 6 pm, and the show starts at 7 pm. A full bar and Pie Hole pizza are available.

Featured storytellers Chanel DaSilva, Eric Valentine and Dwayne Blackaller start the night off by breaking out true stories on the theme, told live on stage and without notes. 

Following an intermission, the story slam starts. Open to the audience, five names are drawn at random from a hat to tell five-minute theme-based stories. In the end, the featured storytellers choose a story slam favorite, who wins a prize package from Boise Guest House and Rediscovered Books.

Musician Dan Costello performs, and Jessica Holmes hosts the evening.

The March 25 Story Story Night show also marks the final afterparty of the season at Red Feather Lounge and Bittercreek Ale House. This is the last time the free themed drink special for ticketholders will be on offer.

“It’s true. Drink in METAMOPORPHOSiS. Story Story Night is changing it up after this show,” says Jessica Holmes, a co-founder and driving force behind the program. “So we want to bust out and spring into this new phase with a real force, some powerful beauty, some color and humor. Behold, METAMORPHOSiS.”

Story Story Night is announcing a new show calendar system for 2013 and beyond. Typically on the last Monday of every month, a live storytelling event will happen at a fitting venue in the Boise area, but the banner and style it falls under will shift with the seasons.

In the fall and winter, from October to March, Story Story Night will be held at the Rose Room, with featured storytellers followed by an open story slam. In the spring and summer, from April to August, the Story Story Late-Night season takes off at the Visual Arts Collective, where a host opens a provocative theme and a story slam to an over-21 crowd. In September, a special event, Starry Story Night debuts in a new annual event held at the Boise Contemporary Theater that highlights the true life stories of local luminaries.

The downlow: Free STUDiO now in Red Feather Lounge cellar

Picture this. Low lights, a lounge vibe, and a place where stories are shared with casual ease, and sometimes cocktails. We are moving the monthly free Story Story Studio to the cellar at Red Feather Lounge. These swank grounds will be the site of good times, and the shaping of mixed tales. We’ll have a new recording booth to share your story out loud, more tips and tricks brochures, and personalized guided help. The new Studio starts at 7 pm on the third Monday of every month. Drop in next on March 18.

Open story call: 2013 Late-Night season

Story Story Late-Night kicks off at the Visual Arts Collective starting in April and continuing until August. Four hosting guest spots are up for grabs in 2013. The host of a Late-Night show will open the night with a 10 to 20 minute true story that sets the tone for a provocative theme.

To be considered for a hosting spot and learn the full Late-Night lead off shebang, send in a summary of your main story with a suggested theme. We’ll choose the top 10 for auditions. Proper subjects include sex, drugs and drunks, vulgarity, violence, porn and indecency, sin, breaking the law, masturbation, adultery, lust and scandal. You know, the drill. Send your story of debauchery to emma@storystorynight.com by the end of March. Put “Late-Night” in the subject line.

Story Story Night looks into illusions at MiRAGE

(BOISE, IDAHO) In a month fixated on greeting-card love, Story Story Night sorts out myth from matter at MiRAGE: Stories of Too Good to Be True, the live storytelling show held Feb. 25, 2013 at the Rose Room, located at 718 W. Idaho Street in downtown Boise.

Advance tickets are on sale now for $8, or at the door for $10. Doors open at 6 pm, and the show starts at 7 pm. Featured storytellers launch the night with true stories on the theme, told live on stage and without notes, followed by an open story slam. Musician Dan Costello performs, and Jessica Holmes hosts the evening.

Hitting the featured stage are Debbi Evans, Hobie Swan, and John Eckhart. Evans embarks on an epic first date with a mirage man in the desert of Palm Springs. Swan braves the hallucinatory swells of the Bering Sea as an under-water chef on a crab boat. Eckhart falls for an optical illusion on the internet.

Following an intermission, a story slam starts. Names are drawn at random from a hat, and the chosen few have 5 minutes to tell a true story on the theme. The featured storytellers choose a winner, who receives a prize package of a free night’s stay at Boise Guest House and Rediscovered Books.

After the show, the Story Story Afterparty takes off at Red Feather Lounge and Bittercreek. Both local-focused restaurants now offer an exclusive free drink special to the Night’s ticketholders.

“In February, love is in the air, or is that a figment of your imagination?” says Holmes, the driving force behind Story Story Night. “We’ll find out as we get closer, and reach out to touch the magic in the MiRAGE.”
