If “life is a cabaret” then there’s bound to be a story behind it. Jodi Eichelberger, artistic director of Story Story Night, performs his first cabaret performance made up of the songs he’s performed for stage and television in the reverse order of his 30 year career.
The journey starts in his current home of Boise, with recent performances at Alley Repertory Theater of songs sung by Judy Garland, Bea Arthur, and Barbra Streisand. Then we move to television and songs performed by Eichelberger’s character Stingy on the children’s television series LazyTown shot in Iceland and viewed by millions. Next stop, Broadway! Eichelberger will perform songs from “Avenue Q.” He was part of the original cast of this hit musical which closed in New York this last summer after 16 years. The evening includes the story of the first time he went on as the lead.
The diversity of styles will include musical theater, euro-pop, art song, jazz, and opera, including an aria from when he performed the title role in Figaro while studying as an opera student. The music goes all the way back to a stage performance at Boise High School– all connected with the stories behind the songs and accompanied by Dr. Chad Spears.
The evening is a benefit performance for Story Story Night, which begins its 10th season in November.
